'Appease the Ron Paul, Tea Party base'
That was the reason given by a Canadian Democratic MP on why the 'conservative' Canadian government deep-sixed the long-form, mandatory census.
Apparently, ~20% of Canadian citizens were required to fill out a 'long-form' census (similar to the US "American Community Survey ", which is probably just as intrusive). As of 2011, 33% of Canadians will now be mailed a 'voluntary' survey.
Characteristically, the local and provincial mini-tyrants who wish to dictate anything and everything to the serfs are outraged. Since they won't be able to use force to coerce participation, the various government parasites are "reminding Ottawa that data collected from the mandatory census enables them to draft policy and deliver services. " Really? When do they ever rely on their constituents input when forming policy or delivering services? The Canadian DMCA, modled after the scorned US-copyright law, was protested heavily by the average citizen . Yet, the 'conservative' Tories plowed ahead and knelt at the alter of the Almighty US, delivering a copyright law satifactory to the US, RIAA -owned 'diplomats' and administration officials.
Ending the mandatory census of Canadian citizens enrages the ruling classs because they can no longer use the threat of fines, imprisonment or force to compel their peasants to give them more information with which to exert greater social control.
But the most important and glossed over fact is the little nugget of truth uttered by Charlie Angus ; even though it is a small victory, there is power in the want for freedom and liberty that transcends borders and cultures. The movement towards greater freedom may not get positive, national, MSM coverage, but those in power know there's a revolution brewing. Even when the epicenter of that revolution is in another nation. Freedom, it seems, is popular.
Those in control think they can throw scraps from the table of liberty to appease the "Ron Paul, Tea Party base." Sorry, but that is not enough. We want to limit government to its constiutional role. We want to end empire building. We want a DoD that defends the US, not spreads its influenece across the globe. We want to massively scale back the role of the state in our lives. We don't want to rock boats; we want to sink fleets.
Do not be discouraged; your efforts have not gone unheaded! The power elite know you're out there. Give them more sleepless nights and tirelessly to everything you can to promote freedom, peace and liberty!
