IP, Bloggers and Obama
The latest in using government granted copyrights on "Intellectual Property", a company in Las Vegas is suing bloggers and websites who quote and/or link to 'copyrighted' material. The CEO of Righthaven, LLC, Steve Gibson, uses the full force of US copyright law to force quick settlements from bloggers and website owners who don't have the money to fight such frivolous lawsuits.
Alex Jones/Infowars, The Armed Citizen , Free Republic and NORML are all being sued by Righthaven. The Electronic Frontier Foundation has agreed to assist defendants in such cases, even though the shakedowns result in settlements of$2-5,000 .
Now, here's where the fun begins, for all you coincidence theorist (or conspiracy factist) out there; time to make some connections!
Steve Gibson was an associate at Sidley Austin LLP an international business law firm headquartered in Chicago, IL in the late 80's/early 90's. His specialty is intellectual property (hence Righthaven). Barack Obama Soetoro was once an associate at Sidley Austin during the same time. Michelle Obama met her future husband at Sidley Austin, where her specialty was intellectual property. Alex Jones, The Armed Citizen, Free Republic and NORML are all against government intrusion into people's lives, and Infowars.com has been very critical of Barack Soetoro/Obama (see "The Obama Deception ") and the NWO, NAU, etc. Interesting how all of this is interconnected, no?
Is Barry Soetoro or his wife directing their old network contacts to use their law practices to target those critical of Barack and his administration? Doubt it. But I'm sure silencing critics or chilling the speech of would be critics is not unwelcome. If Gibson gets appointed some Czar in the B.S. administration, then we can bust out the tin foil and kool aid. Until then, we can only hope that this business model built on spurious litigation is as 'successful' as the RIAA's attempt sue 20,000 file sharers, or is counter-sued into oblivion.
